◆ Activity overview

Blue Bells International (BBI) was founded in 1962 and is one of the oldest English circles in Tokyo. There are various groups in this circle, ranging from beginner classes for learning basic English to advanced classes for discussing politics, economics, business, and so on. Mainly businessmen/women, housewives, students, school teachers, etc. in Tokyo participate.
The main groups have meetings every Saturday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, mainly at the community hall in Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

◆ About activity place

Due to the influence of the new coronavirus, we have been conducting regular activities online (Zoom). But since March of this year (2022), we have gradually resumed activities at civic halls in Chuo Ward.

◆ Membership fees, etc.

The membership fee is 300 yen per participation, and there is no annual membership fee or admission fee.This membership fee is the fee for using the resident hall and It is used for the contract fee of the online system (Zoom).
There is also a separate entry fee for events such as training camps and Christmas parties.

◆ About the management body of the circle

BBI is a non-profit English conversation circle operated by volunteer activities of participants.We may ask members to help us a little, but we appreciate your understanding.

Activity contents

◆ Regular activity

Every Saturday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, we will participate in groups with different orientations from beginner to advanced to study English. The textbooks and study methods used are different for each group, and each group has its own enjoyment.
In addition to the above 3:00 pm activities (main group), we also have activities before 3:00 pm and Thursday evening online (Zoom) activities (subgroups). You can join a different group every time, so please find the group that suits you.

◆One day joyful trip (June)

We will study English a while away from Tokyo a few nights and spa in hot springs etc. However, there are plenty of fun events as well as English study.
On the first day, we will have an event using English until evening and we can enjoy English fun in a different way than usual regular activities. In the evening, we eat delicious food and deepen exchanges through drinking parties, table tennis tournaments, and karaoke.Some members are competing for the number of times they enter hot springs.
On the second day we will do another event using English or hiking the nearby place. Although the contents of the event and the place of training site(hotel) change every year, around 20 people participate each time, and more than usual we are excited about English study and events.

◆ Speech Day (Oct.)

A volunteer of 5 to 8 speakers will be chosen and will make a speech in front of nearly 100 audiences. Speakers prepare manuscripts and on the day they will decide the best speakers under judgment.
Speakers come out of advanced classes, as well as from beginner classes. They are not simply evaluated in English ability, but expressions at the time of content and speech are also evaluated, so it does not mean that speakers of advanced class always become the best ones. And speakers who have participated in the speech day so far are all saying "I have learned very much."

◆ Christmas party (December)

As a closing year, we have a Christmas party at a hotel or fancy restaurant. 50 to 80 members dress up, enjoy chatting and tasteful events.
We also have delicious food and alcohol. And it will be very exciting with exchange of Christmas gifts. Normally, members who can not participate easily in regular activities also participate in Christmas parties and have a happy conversation with the members who have met for the first time in a while.Please participate in the Christmas Party which is the most fun and gorgeous event in the year.
